ABOUT MY INTERNSHIP
Last summer, I interned as a product designer on Lyft's Driver XP team. There, I creating experiences for rideshare drivers, the heart of Lyft’s business.
My work here has been one of my favorite projects so far, centered around a high-profile feature involving many logistical and creative challenges that I was trusted to think through.
I've also encountered a lot of first time experiences: operating within an extensive design system, performing real user research, presenting constantly, to name a few, and while I've always been confident about my visual skillset, this work has pushed me towards becoming a better designer in many ways beyond just craft.

Challenges & Learnings
Understand the ecosytem
At Lyft, you’re part of a complex ecosystem of people, their work, and their users.
This means that in order to do your own work well, you have to cultivate a deep understanding of everything from the business itself to the workstreams of everyone that’s involved (directly or tenuously) with your project.
Maintain an agile approach to iteration
At the outset, my project was pretty loosely defined, and as the weeks went by, new findings would surface and shift the focus of my work.
I learned that designing with agility — iterating quickly and with a willingness to start over again and again — was necessary for navigating new challenges as they arose.
Produce thoughtful improvements
At a startup, nearly everything you create is a huge value-add as you’re often building from nothing. But at Lyft, I was building upon layers of past work, and furthermore every decision I made would ripple through the ecosystem.
Here, I learned to approach my work with intense thoughtfulness, something essential for crafting a product that serves many users — many of which I’ll never meet.
